Vikki helped us through what turned out to be a very difficult move. We were on a tight timeframe as we were selling in England and buying in Scotland. Vikki handled the liaison with our Scottish solicitor (acting for us in our purchase there) brilliantly. She also worked patiently and effectively with our buyer's chosen firm, which was quite a challenge. A complex Land Registry issue arose late on in the sale of our buyer's property. Vikki was able to advise us swiftly and knowledgeably. This matter took a while for other parties to sort out but Vikki kept us updated throughout and calmly helped us to keep the chain intact. She's professional, experienced and friendly and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend her. Brilliant.

I asked for their help submitting papers to Land Registry and was required to pay £2400 up front. They then said they didn’t think I would be successful and refused to submit the papers or give me my money back.

Used their conveyancing team to complete a house purchase. Gurvinder Kehel (who handled my purchase) was good and responsive overall. However I was left less than impressed when the survey without the valuation page was not sent to the vendor as I had asked specifically - rather the survey WITH the valuation was sent over! I was not able to negotiate with the vendors with the significant upfront repair costs as a result. This shows a lack to attention to detail and I would be hesitant to use Higgs and Sons again or recommend them.

I have been a client of Paul Barker, a property litigation partner at Higgs & Sons. I understand that he acts mainly for corporate clients, but I instructed him as part of a small group of private clients. I myself am a retired solicitor. I have found Paul technically excellent, with an impressive mastery of the law and commercial practice in his field. His advice has been clear, well-judged and practical, always homing in promptly on both the technical legal points and the practical commercial points requiring consideration. He has clearly also worked hard to build up a wide network of both legal and commercial contacts in his sector, and this is reflected in the sense of depth and perspective that he brings to his advice. With regard to costs, although coming primarily from a commercial background, he has been sensitive to our particular concerns as private clients with respect to costs, and has been proactive and flexible in helping us to find ways of managing our costs as efficiently as possible. I have had no occasion to so much as think of querying his time-recording or billing. Added to all of this, he has come over as an outgoing and friendly character, and has been a pleasure to deal with at all times. I have only had limited contacts with other people within the firm, but those that I have had have given me the impression that all of these characteristics of Paul’s practice reflect the ethos of the firm as a whole. I would have no hesitation in recommending him to others, and indeed have already had occasion to recommend him to past colleagues of my own who required advice in his area.

I would definitely recommended Higgs, who dealt with my personal injury claim after my road traffic accident (hit & run, unknown driver) Simon Stanfield (my solicitor) and his legal assistant Alison Rowlands are both super friendly, professional, very helpful, and both communicated fantastically with me during my claim. I was always kept in the loop of where my case was at, as the Motor Insurance bureau (MIB) are not the most responsive, but Simon & Alison constantly updated me of where my claim was at, or what step I needed to take next. Founders first MBO.

This was our first MBO, and it was a steep learning curve. Higgs helped guide us through the legal side of the process and were available when we needed clarity or reassurance. They produced strong documentation and helped us protect our position as founders. Over the course of 5 years, we appointed Higgs & Sons to act as a professional deputy. Unfortunately, our experience was consistently marked by poor communication, significant delays, and a lack of professionalism. Despite the firm charging approximately £12,000–£15,000 per year for what were simple administrative duties, timely responses to calls or emails were rare. Although Nicholas Moxon was named as the appointed deputy, we did not receive a single email or telephone call from him during the entire period. All communication was instead routed through Claire Whittall and Katie Chance, both of whom were frequently unresponsive and, at times, discourteous. On one occasion, after receiving no replies, I drove nearly two hours to the firm’s office, only to be handed documents by a receptionist while the relevant staff members declined to meet. The deputyship accounts were also significantly behind schedule—approximately two years overdue. Given the level of fees being charged, it is essential that these accounts are scrutinised by the Senior Courts Costs Office to ensure they are legitimate and proportionate. Following my mother’s passing, we expected a degree of sensitivity and efficiency. Instead, even simple enquiries regarding arrangements for a modest funeral required repeated follow ups. The funeral directors were not paid promptly, and we were again left to chase for updates. Despite the minimal communication during this period—amounting to only a few emails—Higgs & Sons sought to charge £3,389.40 for “extensive involvement.” In correspondence, Katie Chance stated: “Following your mother’s death there was extensive involvement to assist the executors in understanding the current position and to try and progress matters. The work completed from the date of death to date currently stands at £3,389.40… However, given the value of the estate, I am happy to agree to a 10% reduction of these fees as a gesture of goodwill.
