ReviewSolicitors Suitability Check
How the Suitability Check works
The ReviewSolicitors Suitability Check is designed to help you understand whether a law firm may be suitable
for your legal matter and to support you in deciding what to do next.
It brings together information from publicly available sources, regulatory data, and verified client reviews
and ratings to make it easier to compare law firms and connect with a solicitor who may be suited to your needs.
ReviewSolicitors works with thousands of law firms across the UK, many of whom actively collect client reviews
through our platform. We aim to make it as simple and seamless as possible for you to find, compare, and connect
with a law firm that may be able to help with your matter.
However, the information shown here is based on data that is updated periodically. Solicitors can move between
law firms, law firms may change the areas of law they offer, and capacity to take on new client matters can vary
over time.
Checks on whether a law firm is accepting new clients are carried out on a monthly or quarterly basis, depending
on the information available to us. While this helps keep information up to date, we cannot guarantee that all
details will always be accurate at the time you view them.
In some cases, a law firm may appear as “Not accepting new clients through ReviewSolicitors” because they are not
actively engaged with us or have not confirmed their availability. They may still be accepting new clients
directly, and if you are unsure, it is always best to contact the law firm directly to confirm their expertise,
availability, and whether they have the capacity to handle your matter.
This rating is based on verified client feedback and compares how this firm’s value for money is perceived against the national average. In legal services, value for money is not about being the cheapest option, but about whether clients feel the service, expertise, and outcome justified the cost. This comparison helps place client experiences in context when choosing a law firm.

About this score
This rating is based on client feedback and compares how satisfied people were with the result of their legal matter against the national average for similar legal services. While every case is different and outcomes can depend on the law, the facts, and decisions made by courts or tribunals, this comparison is designed to be like for like.
When a firm has a large number of reviews, individual case differences tend to balance out over time. This makes the national average a useful benchmark for understanding how often clients feel the result achieved was fair and appropriate for their situation. Even small differences from the average can therefore reflect a meaningful difference in the overall standard of legal service provided.

Outstanding Support and a Successful Outcome
I cannot recommend Catherine highly enough. She handled my medical negligence case with professionalism, compassion and genuine care from start to finish.
Going through a medical negligence claim was incredibly stressful and emotional, but Catherine made the whole process much easier. She kept me informed every step of the way, explained everything clearly, answered all my questions and always made me feel that my case was being taken seriously.
Catherine’s knowledge, dedication and attention to detail were outstanding, and her hard work ultimately resulted in winning my case. I am extremely grateful for everything she did for me and for the support and reassurance she gave me throughout what was a very difficult experience.
I would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending Catherine to anyone considering a medical negligence claim. She was professional, caring, approachable and determined to get the best possible outcome. Thank you, Catherine, for everything you did for me.

Medical Negligence/Human Rights Complaint
There is a problem with this firm unfortunately. This is sad, because initially they do seem most positive and helpful.Often this cannot be said of the profession.
Once money has changed hands however, this approach seems to change. This does seem to be confirmed by other clients both here and elsewhere.
Of course they would maintain that this is because it is only then that they know the true facts. It might be better that they establish their view of these before substantial sums are paid, however.
My complaint involved the care and treatment of a loved one at an NHS hospital here in the South West. My relative was placed on a version of the notorious "Liverpool Pathway", which many consider a "death" pathway. Patients are dehydrated, with all fluids being denied, and there is heavy sedative use, regardless of pain levels, which can also prevent drinking, and depress the metabolism.
And so the there were too issues:
a) The issue of possible negligence ,
b) Her human rights and freedoms being ignored (I was also possessed an LPA for the relative, which was denied/ignored).
Unfortunately, the two lawyers concerned, specialising in these respective areas, couldn't seem to relate and integrate these two ideas. There were two further distinctions:
1) Possible negligence in not actively treating the person:for example she walked a half mile a week before admission, sitting in the local town square, and drinking coffee. This fact was ignored by doctors, and seemingly be these lawyers as well. Instead they became "blinded by science"i.e.an MRI scan result.
2) The actual "end of life" plan or practices themselves, which can reasonably be claimed, cause or hasten death. In this instance my loved one was denied all fluids for 7 days in a 95 degree room, and a sedative "cocktail" was given. This was the main issue.
Again, the relationship between these wasn't understood: the medical negligence lawyer ignored the former, simply looking at 1). It was stated that clinicians "did everything they should have done",as "guidance" said that only a saline drip should be used to give fluids in the case of a condition like this.
This was completely nonsensical, as the medical records clearly showed that when so called palliative care began this was removed without my consent. Doctors themselves prescribed "sips" of water at first, though it was likely none were given. The notes-although confused-also confirm that there was no water give by mouth for at least 5 days.I helped my loved one drink myself, and she could do so normally. However staff kept trying to prevent this, and then the sedation made this anyway impossible.
I pointed out these facts, but those concerned seemed unable or unwilling to grasp them.
Instead they seemed preoccupied with a case from the 1950s called Bolham. This was nothing to do with "end of life" at all, and related to a mental patient injured during ECT.ECT, however controversial, is at least a type of cure or treatment, not leading to almost inevitable death, as does 5-7 days of dehydration.
During the 1950's doctors did not even prescribe opiates in such cases, and almost always attempted a cure.Even abortion was illegal. The kind of practices which I describe would quite possibly have seen them charged with manslaughter or homicide.
The argument, such as it was, could I suppose have been that some kind of "body of doctors"still practiced the LCP or similar, since this in the test (for negligence).
Similar arguments could probably be advanced to justify such things as the actions of the doctors tried at Nuremberg even:i.e.they were respected men of science/in their field, and the law was ambiguous at the time, as to whether their actions were civil wrongs or actually criminal. This was part of their defence in fact.
I believe it is actually quite clear that clinicians cannot function in a bubble:they can't justify unreasonable, cruel, immoral acts, blatant neglect or disregard of basic rights and freedoms with these kind of arguments.
The LCP is actually banned within the UK
These considerations are actually embodied in later case law etc e.g.Bolito. In addition, other precedent (e.g.the Bland case),makes clear that doctors are not exempted form their duty to preserve life where basic provision of water by mouth is concerned, only clinically assisted hydration, and aware persons should not be dehydrated( Yet the lawyer in question seemed incredulous when I mentioned criminal concerns).
One is left to discover all this oneself however, or by taking advice elsewhere.
There were the following problems:
i) It was claimed that the doctors did not possess a copy of the LPA. This was factually incorrect:they photocopied the whole document. Their own notes confirmed this. But since the lawyer concerned merely "glanced"at the records (her words),this conclusion was unsurprising.
ii) It was said (by the same lawyer) that surgeons couldn't operate due to a life endangering aneurism.Later I consulted a doctor myself as to this. He believed this unlikely.
iii) The two lawyers emphasised at first that my own, extensive notes were important. Later they refused to have sight of these, even though I offered additional payment.
iv) It was agreed that there would be a letter to the trust relating to a potential claim. This never materialised, even though a claim like this was implicit in the obligation to provide the records.A refund was made, but this was small.
On the positive side, a draft letter was written by the COP MCA lawyer, r.e.human rights, to the Ombudsman, which was well written. It omitted to say that all fluids were withdrawn however, not just treatment. Regardless this was of limited use, as it wasn't signed.
If the complaints dept. wish to engage with me, I would consider this, but due to all of the above, I fear that I cannot recommend the firm for such cases, despite my initial good impression. They seem to only be willing to take on "right leg amputated instead of left leg" type work, and I believe they lack the courage to embark upon controversial cases, taking on powerful institutions such as the NHS.
I would think twice before engaging them in any capacity in fact, as they give an impression, r.e.taking on future work, which can be mislead, leaving clients potentially out of pocket.

When we first contacted Liz with the issue before us, it was pretty daunting, but we were convinced that something had to be done, especially when the health authority didn't acknowledge any "learning" from their investigations, and as such, others could experience similar problems when in their care.
Liz put us at ease from that first contact and it was like discussing the situation with an old friend, albeit in this case a very knowledgeable old friend.
We have been kept informed at every stage and although we have never met Liz or Catherine they have prompted us and kept us informed at all times.
When you are faced with a dilemma it's good to know that you can depend on the caring approach that Liz and Catherine offer at Wollens.

“Exceptional Support Through a Difficult Time”
I cannot recommend Rebecca Proctor highly enough for the way she handled the financial matters relating to my divorce.
From the outset, Rebecca took the time to explain the process to me clearly, what to expect and the potential outcomes. This gave me a real understanding of where I stood and what could happen, which was incredibly reassuring during such an uncertain time.
It was an incredibly difficult period for me, particularly as I was also dealing with the loss of my brother, and there were times when I simply needed someone I could trust to take care of things for me. Rebecca gave me that reassurance.
Throughout the process, I felt supported, listened to and in very safe hands. I never knew whether the financial matters would become more complicated or escalate, so I really valued Rebecca’s straightforward, strong and professional approach. She gave me clear advice and supported me in making decisions, while always making sure I understood what was happening.
Rebecca was also incredibly sympathetic to my personal circumstances and understood that this was about much more than just the finances. She kept me updated throughout the process and dealt with matters efficiently, allowing me to step back and know that everything was being handled.
Jess, who is part of Rebecca’s team, was also fantastic and I’m very grateful for the support she provided.
I am genuinely so grateful to Rebecca and Jess for everything they did for me during what was an extremely difficult period of my life. Having someone knowledgeable, strong, straightforward and compassionate handling the financial side of my divorce made such a difference.
I would highly recommend Rebecca to anyone going through a divorce and needing someone they can genuinely trust to handle their financial matters professionally, efficiently and with understanding.

Writing a Will
As I've stated far too expensive. I thought after being a regular client and less people in my will it would have been lower in price. I carried on with it because I just wanted my will out the way for personal reasons, so I did and do feel let down by Wollens.

Outstanding service from start to finish
We had the pleasure of dealing with David Eastman & Asia Gurung when purchasing our new build property. We could not fault them at all. Everything was dealt with quickly, with precision and communication was excellent. I have no doubt that, without them and their efficiency, the purchase would have taken far longer than it did to complete. I would not hesitate in recommending Wollens and I wouldn't consider using another firm.

Having never needed a solicitor before, I found the process of having to seek advice extremely intimidating.
When arranging my appointment and seeing if I could receive any advice for my matter, Rosa was incredibly helpful not only in arranging an appointment in time for me, but also making sure I was aware of the process and got any needed documents sent across.
When receiving my advice, Jon made the process extremely straightforward, but also acted as a great advocate, going above and beyond.
Really grateful for them leading me through something that can be difficult in nature!

Mark Iddles and the team at Wollens Solicitors in Torquay have twice provided me with truly first‑class service. Most recently, the sale of my late mother’s property was handled with great care, sensitivity, and complete professionalism. I always felt that my conveyancing and land registration matters were safe and secure in their hands. The team were consistently understanding, approachable, and 100% helpful — even something as simple as knowing they would pick up the phone brought real reassurance. I am very grateful for their support and would wholeheartedly recommend Wollens Solicitors.

George Yabsley was incredibly helpful with our tenancy-related issues. He was always kind, approachable and made me feel like I was never a burden when I called.
What I appreciated most was that I never had to fight to speak to him or feel like I was being avoided. He was easy to get hold of, listened to our concerns and made the whole situation feel much less stressful.
I’m really grateful for all of his help and would highly recommend him.
Thank you for your feedback regarding the work that George has undertaken for you. We are pleased that he has been able to help you.

How We Present Law Firm Ratings
We show you how this law firm is rated for the specific legal service
you're
interested in, as well as how the firm is rated overall. This helps you
understand both their specialist strengths and their broader reputation.
Law firms often assist clients with a wide range of legal matters-for
example,
one person may need help with a divorce, while another may be starting a
business. Because legal services are typically delivered by individual
solicitors within the firm, it's important to know how those particular
individuals are likely to perform in the area of law that matters to
you.
At the same time, an overall view of the law firm's performance can also
be
helpful. That's why we aim to give you both the specific insight and the
full
picture—so you can make an informed and confident choice.
