    Not just a great lawyer, but a really great person too...

    I approached Dan Brooks at Poole Alcock for advice on a litigation matter. However, whilst the reason for reaching out to Dan was that I obviously needed his support as a lawyer, his overall approach and demeanour throughout the case meant that he made a tough time in my life a little less stressful, and gave me peace of mind when I needed it the most.     The solicitor who billed but who was never available

    No replies to my emails and no answer to telephone calls, on one occasion I had to contact Poole Alcock general enquires phone number so they could pass on a message to her to contact me whilst I was a paying client. There were missed attachments from emails I had to chase and poor grammar when I received emails back. She also missed exchange dates from the other party, her response was it was just a purposed date. Eventually I had enough and emailed Chloe stating I no longer wished to work with her, to which I had no response. I followed up 2 days later, again no response. To my shock Chloe then sent the party I was dealing with my full financial records. This fully exposed me and next solicitor who would be replacing Chloe. Her response to this was I had to understand she is busy with other clients. She was great at the start, but when a contract had been signed and billing began the service fell off a cliff.

    I spoke with Sarah Jayne today on a matter of litigation. She called me at the appointed time and immediately impressed me with her understanding of what had been discussed with her colleague. Her advice was both considered and knowledgeable. I was also impressed by her logic and integrity in not simply racking up a large fee for costs that could not be later recovered. I won’t hesitate to consider using this firm going forward

      Unprofessional, slow, and disorganised - Avoid

      Extremely disappointing experience with this firm. I instructed them on a straightforward residential purchase (no chain on either side, and no mortgage). This ultimately fell through after around seven months, during which I experienced prolonged delays, a lack of meaningful progress, and absymal communication. In particular, there was a period of around six weeks where my file appeared to make little or no progress, followed by an internal transfer which was handled poorly and resulted in further delays and frustration. Throughout the transaction, I found communication and ownership of the matter disappointing, and I was left chasing for updates rather than feeling that the transaction was being actively managed. Another recurring frustration was being given explanations about the complexity of the matter and delays relating to cladding, management information and other outstanding issues. I appreciate that leasehold transactions can be complicated and that some matters are outside a solicitor's direct control. However, these are precisely the sorts of issues I would expect a firm specialising in residential conveyancing to be experienced in dealing with. Instead, they often seemed to be presented as reasons why progress could not be made, without any clear timeline for resolution. The purchase eventually had to be abandoned while we were still waiting for outstanding management information and responses to enquiries, with no clear or reliable timeframe for exchange. Following this, I was initially presented with an abortive fee. After raising a formal complaint about the service I had received, the firm offered a £200 reduction, which I ultimately accepted. While I appreciate that the reduction was made, I don't think it changes the fact that the overall service fell well below expected professional standards and what I would expect from a firm that advertises itself as experts in residential conveyancing. My experience was unnecessarily stressful and time-consuming, and I would not use this firm again. I strongly recommend avoiding them for residential conveyancing.
